Samarpan’s Suicide Prevention Training with The Connect Hut

In honour of Mental Health Awareness Month, Samarpan hosted a focused Suicide Prevention Training Workshop on May 26th at its Mulshi campus near Pune. The session was conducted in collaboration with The Connect Hut and led by Sachin Chitambaran - founder of The Connect Hut, President of Befrienders India, and co-founder of the Ankahee Suicide Prevention Helpline.

The workshop brought together Samarpan’s mental health professionals, addiction specialists, and frontline caregivers for practical training on gatekeeping practices tailored to individuals with substance use disorders. Through interactive exercises, participants learned to recognise behavioural cues of suicidal ideation, understand the link between withdrawal, co-occurring conditions, and suicide risk, and apply effective communication and crisis de-escalation techniques. The session also highlighted culturally sensitive referral protocols and the importance of context-specific suicide prevention strategies in India.

With over 90 years of combined international experience in addiction and mental health, Samarpan continues to blend clinical excellence with compassion through its residential and outpatient programs across Maharashtra. This training reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to capacity-building, advocacy, and strengthening suicide prevention efforts - ensuring staff are equipped to respond with sensitivity, awareness, and care.
