Often, people with addiction problems face the tragedy of trying to stay sober but continually relapsing. They may feel like they have tried everything, but they miss out on one simple factor: mental health treatment.
Having a mental health problem combined with addiction presents unique problems and requires unique solutions. Here are some of the benefits of attending one of the dual diagnosis rehabs in Pune.
Attending a dual diagnosis center can help you address the symptoms of your condition. Dual diagnosis centers do this by giving you therapy that can effectively reduce the symptoms that you experience.
If you are depressed, your therapist will guide you to look at the reasons behind your depression. Often depression is caused by a number of factors. Facing these issues head on will allow you to experience a reduction or even complete halt of the symptoms that you have been facing, which will help you to stay clean and sober after receiving addiction treatment.
If you go to a dual diagnosis rehab, you will learn coping skills that will help you to live effectively with your mental health problem.
For instance, if you have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the staff at a dual-diagnosis treatment center can teach you how to deal with the flashbacks that can come with PTSD.
Being able to cope with your mental health condition more effectively will massively improve the quality of your life. You will have an improved ability to move forwards and achieve your goals.
If you have a co-occurring disorder, you must get dual diagnosis treatment. Trying to address your addiction without also working on your mental health problems will not be effective.
When you choose to invest in dual diagnosis treatment, your ability to remain in long-term recovery is greatly enhanced. You will have the information and tools needed to deal with your mental health issues when they arise, which will mean that you will not have to turn to substance use again.
Drug and alcohol addiction is both caused by mental health problems, and also causes mental health problems. Someone who has experienced a traumatic event and has developed PTSD is likely to experience depression and anxiety. They may find that taking heroin temporarily causes these mental health symptoms to abate.
As they continue taking heroin, they develop a dependence on the drug and become addicted. When they attempt to stop taking it, they find that the withdrawal they experience causes their depression and anxiety to significantly worsen.
In effect they are now stuck in a cycle where they must use heroin, or deal with the initial symptoms of their PTSD, combined with the heroin withdrawal symptoms.
While most of the heroin withdrawal symptoms are over in a few days to a week, if someone has been addicted to heroin (or another substance) for a long period of time, they may experience Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms (PAWS).
PAWS is a condition that follows acute withdrawal, and can worsen mental health issues for a while after receiving treatment. PAWS also causes people who have recently quit using substances to continue to experience a continuation of some of the withdrawal symptoms they experienced during the acute stage.
PAWS sufferers regularly experience anxiety, depression, anger, mood swings, fatigue, emotional sensitivity, cognitive issues and reduced motivation. These symptoms come in waves, and can last from a few hours to a couple of days.
The amount of time you go through Post Acute Withdrawal depends on a few different factors, including how long you were using substances for, the amount you were using and how much stress you are under.
The first key to dealing with PAWS is awareness. Knowing that what you are going through is normal and is not going to last forever can be a big help for people who are newly clean and sober.
Secondly, you should try and keep stress to a minimum. Try not to make any big changes in your first year of sobriety, as these can ramp up stress levels. If you are able to, spend some time each week focusing on recovery-related activities. Consider attending twelve-step meetings, reading books on addiction, or having sessions with a counselor.
If you have mental health problems, you should continue to work on these. Use the lessons that you learnt during your stay at one of the rehabs in Pune to keep your symptoms reduced, and make sure to reach out for help if you need it.
When you are looking at dual diagnosis rehabs in Pune, you should consider these as the most important factors.
The rates charged by rehabs in Pune vary massively. Some rehabs charge less than 10,000 rupees per week, others charge far more. The adage “you get what you pay for” tends to apply with addiction treatment. And while some rehab in Pune can seem pricey, they tend to be far less expensive than in most other countries.
How modern and well-equipped are the facilities? Your living environment makes a massive impact on your mental health, so you should make sure that the rehab center that you go to is a pleasant environment to be in.
Choose a center that is in a peaceful location. Also pay attention to how comfortable the rooms are, whether there are dedicated areas for dining, and if there is an area to exercise in.
The staff at a rehab center in Pune are perhaps the most important factor to consider when looking at a dual diagnosis center.
You should make sure that the counselors have the necessary qualifications, and plenty of experience treating addiction and mental health problems. This is absolutely crucial. Before you make your decision of which of the rehabs in Pune you will choose, ask to speak with some of the counselors there. This can give you a feel for the quality of the staff the centre is employing.
Treatment for dual diagnosis can be complicated. You must treat both conditions at the same time, or treatment is unlikely to be effective. At Samarpan Recovery, we pride ourselves in the ability of our ability counselors to treat people who have dual diagnosis.
Samarpan Recovery is just 40 minutes outside the centre of Pune, in an environment that is perfect for recovering from both addiction and mental health problems. If you would like more information on how our centre treats dual diagnosis, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
